Buford, Georgia, gave Saturday’s runners a finish-line goal with a sweetly simple qualification rule: complete the Pastry Road Race, and you qualify for a pastry.

The second running of the event brought a 5K and fun run to downtown Buford on October 3. FundRacers described a morning of music, door prizes, awards, food and a flat course along Main Street, with proceeds supporting its Karyn Vecchio Irwin Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The final timing results list 122 racers. Billy Doran led the overall 5K in 18 minutes, 12 seconds, while Danielle Sadoti was the top female finisher in 19:53. The age-group tables stretch from runners 10 and under through participants 75 and up, giving the pastry qualifier a broad field of contenders.

That is a tidy race-day bargain: five kilometers of effort, then the pleasant administrative business of collecting a pastry. FundRacers’ event page lays out the pastry qualification and the charitable purpose; the published results record the October 3 finishers.
