Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Adopt the Rescue Pup Who Visited Their Show
A Monday morning appearance turned into Tuesday’s happy announcement: Javi, first introduced as Lucas, is joining the family after a chemistry check with Lena.
Some guests leave a morning show with a wave. Javi left with a new family.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced on the October 13 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark that they had adopted the small rescue dog they met the day before during the show’s Adopt a Dog Week. The puppy appeared on the October 12 broadcast under his original name, Lucas; Consuelos suggested Javi, short for Javier, and the couple later shared that they had chosen to adopt him.
There was one household introduction to make first. Ripa and Consuelos brought their dog Lena to meet Javi backstage for what they called a “chemistry test.” Consuelos said Lena did not bark at her new companion, while Ripa joked that Lena approaches every dog with a little caution. They expect the pair to become buddies as they get acquainted.
Javi was still completing medical checks before moving into the home, Ripa said. She described herself and Consuelos as expectant parents and joked that she had started nesting the night before. The couple’s announcement came from the same kind of small-screen meeting that had brought Lena and their late dog Chewie into their family.
The show’s puppy visit got a second act: a new name, a careful introduction, and a family preparing a place for one more small dog.
