A Pikesville cow turned a Wednesday afternoon into an unexpected neighborhood adventure, with a route through the woods and onto Interstate 695 before Baltimore County officers and the animal’s owner brought her safely back under control.

The department received the unusual call on Oct. 21. A police spokesperson told Patch the cow had left Hidden Waters Farm around 1 p.m., near the 3200 block of Old Court Road. Officers found her in the neighborhood, then watched her head through a wooded area toward the beltway.

The cow’s owner joined the search, and officers helped secure her near I-695. WBAL reported that Officers D. Royster and L. Bailey used a rope from a patrol car to bring the cow into police custody. A farmhand arrived with a trailer to take her home. The department described the call as an unusual one, and 98 Rock reported that the scene ended safely.

That is a memorable itinerary for a Wednesday: farm, woods, interstate, then a trailer ride home. The cow supplied the detour; her people and the officers supplied the reunion.
