Hustlerfest Is Back, and This Tiny Wisconsin Village Has a Tractor Pull to Prove It

The 104th annual festival opens today in a village of about 160 people, with pedal pulls, chicken dinner and the sort of “silly games” that make a community calendar worth reading.

Neighbors gather around a small-town Wisconsin festival with garden tractors, children on pedal tractors and a barbecue chicken table beneath a Hustlerfest 104 sign.

Today’s lead: a very large festival for a very small village

Hustler, Wisconsin, is spending this weekend living up to its unusually memorable name. The village’s official festival page says Hustlerfest begins Friday, August 28, and runs through Sunday, August 30. The 104th edition is a fundraiser hosted by the Hustler Booster Club, supporting scholarships, park improvements and neighbors in need.

The event’s program has the full small-town-fair range: tractor pulls, a kids’ pedal pull, a chicken dinner and “many fun silly games for all ages.” That is an impressive amount of horsepower and silliness to fit into a place the Wisconsin Department of Administration lists at 160 residents in its 2024 estimate. In other words, this weekend’s attendance may briefly turn “tiny village” into “please excuse the traffic.”

There is no punchline needed beyond the schedule: when your community festival is called Hustlerfest, the lawn tractors are competing, and the chicken is barbecued on the grounds, the calendar has already done most of the writing.
