At Evans City PumpkinFest on Sunday, a newcomer took the pumpkin-pie title from the returning champion after enjoying lunch at the festival first.
The organizers’ Sunday schedule set the contest for 1 p.m. during the fifth annual festival in Evans City, Pennsylvania. Ten contestants raced through an eight-inch pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream. Local reporting named newcomer Adam Snider of McCandless as the winner over returning champion Brandon Johns, pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Snider told the Cranberry Eagle that he had eaten lunch at the festival before entering. He and his girlfriend had made a last-minute plan to find something fun to do on their day off, then landed in the middle of a seasonal showdown built around one very committed dessert.

PumpkinFest filled Evans City’s streets on September 19 and 20 with families, craft and food vendors, children’s activities, music and autumn decorations. The organizers’ schedule placed the pie-eating contest among Sunday’s lineup, alongside a car cruise and live music.
The format was simple: one pie, ten contestants, a crowd watching the clock. Snider arrived as a first-time food-contest entrant and left with the title. His pre-contest lunch turned a good local victory into the sort of detail people will retell at next year’s festival: enjoy the food stalls, see the sights, and keep a little room for the main event.
