The Great New York State Fair has put its most compact athletes on the Sunday itinerary, with three rounds of “The Fast and the Furriest.”
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sunday’s New York State Fair has a sporting question that does not require a stopwatch to appreciate: how much speed can fit inside a very short dog? The official fair calendar lists The Fast and the Furriest Corgi Races at the Exposition Center on August 30 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m.
The fair’s event page describes the attraction as corgis racing for onlookers and calls on spectators to choose a favorite. The Sunday daily schedule places the races in the same Exposition Center lineup as the fair’s other animal and entertainment attractions. In other words, Syracuse has made room for a competition where the athletes bring their own low center of gravity and the crowd supplies the aerodynamic encouragement.
There is no claim here about a winner: the published schedule is an event listing, not a results sheet. What is verified is the wonderfully specific plan for today—three chances to watch determined little runners turn a fairground floor into a very serious short-distance track.
