ARLINGTON, Va. — The Washington Capitals spent their scheduled day off on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at MedStar Capitals Iceplex with their own pets and animals from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. The occasion was the team’s annual canine-calendar photo session, according to The Hockey News’ same-day report by Capitals beat reporter Sammi Silber.

The rink hosted dogs and cats alongside the players as they posed for the calendar. Silber reported that the finished edition is expected later this fall, with proceeds benefiting Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. Her report describes rescue animals joining players and their pets for the portraits, turning a workday at the iceplex into a community fundraiser with an unusually strong tail-wagging contingent.

Our rink-side aside

Some teams spend a day off avoiding the rink. These players went back with their pets, then posed for a calendar. In this lineup, the most important roster question may have been whether everyone could hold a pose long enough for the camera.
