NEW YORK — Madison Avenue received a very specific dress code on Sunday, July 12: French-inspired, four-legged and prepared to be judged on costume.
New York Dog Parade scheduled Le Carnaval des Animaux, a Bastille Day pet parade and costume competition, between 59th and 60th Streets. The organizer’s programme put the parade at 12:15 p.m. and the costume contest at 1:30 p.m., with the unusually reassuring promise that dogs in berets were part of the plan.
The nonprofit organized the event with L’Alliance New York and listed it as free and open to everyone. Cats and other furry friends were also welcome, according to the organizer’s event materials—an inclusive policy that left the French-fashion brief intact while relaxing the canine admissions standard.
