ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta put the animal kingdom’s messiest lessons on the program for Sunday, July 12, with a Grossology Day designed to turn “eww” into actual ecology.
The zoo’s official notice scheduled the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and listed a syllabus that would make an ordinary science fair quietly close its tri-fold board: the uses of animal poop, disgusting defenses, owl-pellet dissections, vulture-style scavenging and insect design.
The joke is built into the biology. The same behaviors people tend to file under “gross” help animals eat, avoid becoming lunch and keep ecosystems working. Zoo Atlanta also listed ambassador-animal encounters and a Grossology-themed storybook reading, giving visitors several ways to appreciate the under-appreciated without pretending nature keeps a bottle of hand sanitizer nearby.
